Condos, Apartments, Industrial Parks

No matter the Residential or Commercial Development size, we have the right lighting solution.

Creating a solid lighting plan for new properties is essential to establishing the structure, safety, and success of any construction plan. This means that residential and commercial development lighting must follow state and city guidelines. Requirements differ depending on factors such as city laws, property type, residential or commercial project plans, and lighting design. Let's identify a few examples of residential and commercial interior and exterior lighting:

Types of Residential & Commercial Development Lighting

  • Street lights in newly developed neighborhoods or communities
  • Light poles installed on newly paved parking lots
  • Lights at recently developed apartment complex or condo building
  • Interior lighting at new office buildings
  • Lighting on newly build warehouses
  • New hotel lighting

While each of these new developments involves different lighting specifications – including light fixture type, pole height and material, and lumen output for brightness – lighting safety and consistency must play a role in all residential and commercial construction proposals.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What Factors Are There to Consider for New Development Street Lighting?

Recently developed residential communities have the benefit of installing new street lights, which means opening up options for modernly manufactured light poles out of steel, aluminum, or fiberglass, decorative light poles, and energy efficient LED light bulbs on street lights. New residential street lighting also improves the neighborhood’s curb appeal. However, it is also important to consider that the street light pole design and cost may impact homeowner association costs.

For long-lasting new construction light poles, LightMart recommends installing aluminum light poles on streets, in parking lots, etc. Aluminum is lightweight for easy installation and non-corrosive, which allows these poles to exist outdoors for years – decades even – with minimal to no rust.

When is it Recommended to Install Lighting for New Construction?

New construction lighting projects almost always require some form of new lighting installation – whether it is interior or exterior. From lighting new pathways in residential communities using bollard lights, to planning entire commercial building designs and using fixtures such as high bay LED lights on high ceiling areas – such as hotels or warehouses. Newly built public buildings also require emergency lights stationed above exit doors to protect all personnel in the event of an urgent situation.

How Do Lighting Standards Impact New Construction Design?

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, each new construction project requires a minimum amount of footcandles to provide sufficient lighting levels. Warehouses, building hallways, and exits must have at least 5 footcandles of light. Residential and commercial bathrooms typically require a minimum of 10 footcandles. While larger spaces such as commercial office spaces need at least 30 footcandles of light.

In addition to lighting levels, appropriate lighting designs and lighting placement also matters. One best practice includes adding flood lights or wall packs mounted to the exterior of commercial buildings to increase visibility and protection measures.

What Lighting Design is Best for New Developments?

There are different designs that are best suited for residential vs. commercial projects, as well as different styles based on the type of new development. The lighting layout for residential development is smaller scale lighting for home renovations and residential construction updates.

For larger commercial new developments, the lighting layout can impact the structural architecture of a new building, HVAC systems, and other design systems that go into new construction plans.

What are the Advantages of Using LED Lights on Newly Developed Residential and Commercial Lighting Projects?

The biggest energy saving hack when installing lighting systems on new residential and commercial construction is using LED lights. LED lights emit lower levels of heat, require less frequent bulb replacements making them low maintenance, damage resistant, and use less energy while still giving sufficient brightness levels.

LightMart offers a wide range of LED light fixtures – from LED canopy lights for residential and commercial bathrooms to LED street lights.
