What is the recommended brightness for a soccer field?
Light level requirements for a soccer field will depend on the level of play. The higher the level of competition, the brighter the field must be, especially if games are televised.
Brightness is measured in two ways: lumens and foot candles. Put simply, lumens measure the brightness of a light source, whereas foot candles measure the amount of light that reaches the surface of the area that is to be illuminated. In the case of a soccer field, the light level that reaches the field is measured in foot candles.
Here are some general guidelines:
Class 3: Local Training, School, and Recreational Level = 7,000-19,000 foot candles
Class 2: High-Level Training, Semi-Professional, High School = 19,000-47,000 foot candles
Class 1: Professional and Championship Soccer Games = 47,000-140,000 foot candles
How many poles are needed to light a soccer field?
There are three types of pole configurations used to light a soccer field: 4-pole, 6-pole, and 8-pole. Field size and play level will determine the number of poles needed.
Class 3: 4-pole configurations place each pole near the penalty area lines, two poles on each side of the field.
Class 2: 6-pole configurations place two poles on either side of the mid-field line and one pole at each corner of the field.
Class 1: 8-pole configurations place one pole at each corner of the field and two poles each on the sides of the field, evenly spaced along the center line.
If there are bleachers, the poles are placed behind them in the same positions.
By optimizing pole placement around a soccer field, you ensure an even light distribution for players and spectators.
What type of light fixture is best for soccer fields?

They have a high-powered light output and are rated IP66 or higher, ensuring they can withstand the elements. LED soccer field lights should have a color temperature of 5000K and proper beam angles so that the field of play is clearly lit and shadow-free.
