Security Camera Solutions

Installing outdoor security cameras for surveillance is greatly enhanced by mounting them on poles. Placing the cameras at a high elevation allows for a broader line of sight and makes them difficult to tamper with.

Selecting the right pole to mount cameras depends on many factors. These include installation type, installation location, pole material, and pole height. Another thing to consider is the load mounted atop the pole. For example, a multi-purpose pole might not only have security cameras mounted on it, but light fixtures, telecom equipment, and IoT sensors, as well. The pole must be strong enough to safely handle the load in adverse conditions.

Lastly, outdoor security camera poles must be durable, long-lasting, and weather-resistant. This will depend on its material but its lifespan can be extended if it is galvanized (steel), powder-coated, or anodized (aluminum).

Frequently Asked Questions

What material are security camera poles made from?

There are three main materials available: steel, aluminum, and fiberglass. Steel is the strongest and most economical but is the heaviest and has a shorter lifespan. Aluminum is much lighter than steel and has the longest lifespan. Fiberglass is very lightweight and corrosion-resistant but is the most expensive.

What pole shapes are available and what is the best one for my application?

Poles are available in four shapes: square straight, square tapered, round straight, and round tapered. Square poles have four flat sides which makes it easier to attach fixtures and equipment on multiple sides of the pole. Round poles are more wind-resistant than square poles. Tapered poles are widest at the base and narrowest at the top and are more wind-resistant than non-tapered poles.

What pole height works best for mounting security cameras?

This will depend on the location of the pole and its application. We recommend heights of 10-30 feet. Taller poles are needed to overcome any objects or structures that may block line-of-sight.

Are these poles weather-resistant and corrosion-proof?

Yes. LightMart’s anodized aluminum, fiberglass and powder-coated steel poles are designed to resist corrosion, moisture, and UV exposure, ensuring reliable long-term performance in all climates. Steel security camera poles are the most prone to corrosion and it's recommended that they are powder-coated, if not also galvanized.

Do I need special brackets to mount security cameras?

Yes. Security cameras require dedicated mounting brackets for secure installation. LightMart offers a variety of brackets engineered for compatibility with aluminum, fiberglass and metal poles.

What are the benefits of hinged-base security camera poles?

Hinged-base security camera poles allow you to lower the pole all the way to the ground. This allows access to the security equipment and/or light fixtures mounted to the top of the pole without the use of ladders or lifts.

Can LightMart provide a custom-engineered solution?

Absolutely. Our experts can design tailored solutions, including CAD drawings, photometric layouts, and custom bracket recommendations to meet your project’s unique requirements.
